It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything here on SilentMode.tv, but the big news of the day is that this year’s The LEGO Show, due to take place in May, has all of a sudden had a radical change… you can see more information (if you don’t want to read my commentary) on the new page for purchasing tickets.
The first major change is its move to the last week of November this year: specifically the 27th-30th November 2014. This makes a huge change from the short notice given prior to this update, and gives myself (if I’m allowed!) as well as the other exhibitors plenty of time to prepare. That’s not taking this year’s STEAM, the event at the National Space Centre – which had been scheduled for the same weekend as The LEGO Show – and any other events into account.
The second major change is the venue: instead of at the O2 things are now going down at the ExCel Centre. Personally I think the ExCel is a better choice of venue, and I wouldn’t be surprised if many of the shenanigans and complaints about the event prior to this announcement were caused by the O2 and associated parties – but that’s conjecture.
The third major change, if you have a look at the page above, is the name of the event – which is now BRICK 2014. I don’t know the reason behind this apparent name change, but I do know there are some requirements in exchange for using the trademark LEGO in the name of an event, so it might have something to do with that.
In any case, I’m personally happy about the event moving to a later date, and in a way about the change of venue. It is, however, very close to The Great Western LEGO Show (aka STEAM), and it may be a concern for [potential] exhibitors such as myself who like to have fresh displays. Above all else, we have plenty more time to plan our exhibits, instead of the ball-grabbing two months (+1 for waiting on BrickLink/Brick Owl orders).
So what are you waiting for? Go get your tickets to come and see SilentMode and friends.
