The results are in for the First 2016 LEGO Ideas review, as posted about earlier today. I think the outcome surprised us all, and certainly me…
The Old Fishing Store by RobenAnne was chosen as the next LEGO Ideas set, and becomes the first building to accomplish the mean feat. Even though there were a couple of other buildings in the review, I didn’t see it coming at all.
I’d said in my prediction post that this review would set a new precedent, if a project was chosen. You had the Jurassic Park project, which would have put the whole controversy surrounding the licence to bed. You had the modular train station building, which could have become the first LEGO Ideas modular building. Even the Star Wars project stood a chance of being made, although I have a sneaking suspicion it will become the next UCS set instead.
I have no idea how many parts are in the Old Fishing Store, but it having been chosen now opens the door for a LEGO Ideas modular building. They seem to be going for higher-priced sets now, perhaps because of production costs, but also the greater demand for bigger and “beautiful” sets.
You can watch the big announcement here:
I was holding out for an additional announcement, but – as expected – all the other projects in this review have been knocked out.
Having been out of the loop for a while, I was surprised to hear there are 12 projects in contention for the Second 2016 LEGO Ideas review. I’ll have to take a look at them and give my prediction very soon, but from early perceptions it’s going to be another interesting review.
A big congratulations to RobenAnne for their victory. Even though I didn’t really give their project a shot, it’s going to be really interesting to see how the design translates into a LEGO product.
How do you feel about the results? Does it inspire you to go for the 10,000 supporters with your own project, or does it intimidate you? Let me know.
